Mm. We got those in Konoha a few years ago, too. My teammates liked to drag me to every new release. It sounds like our homes are similar.

Did the melting pot idea work?

They do and Yes! It did! I mean, kinda.

People kinda stick to their own and there is some uuuh.. triad issues.. and we haven't had police for very long so it's kind of a whole thing. Plus you know there's all these "supremacy" issues with benders and nonbenders and I've been a part of like.. two civil wars but I don't think that's really the city's fault. It was people's fault and it happens anywhere.

Anyway we've put all that behind us now for the most part and we have a great new president and we're really working on uniting the country.

[ He listens quietly. He doesn't know what a bender or a non-bender are, but supremacy is something he's more than familiar with, as well as wars, and a nation trying to unite.

He can't help himself; Sasuke ends up chuckling softly. ]

It's not identical in words, but I get the feeling our worlds have more than just moving pictures and elements in common. I'm... helping our Hokage to unite all nine nations together for the first time in our history in hopes that maybe there can finally be peace.

[Likewise, Bolin doesn't know what a Hokage is but he gets the jist and smiles, nodding knowingly anyway.]

People, right? It's wild. If it happens anything like how it happened where I'm from then you'll get there, it'll just take time.

Our focus now is to unite our new home here in Trench City! There's a whole new way of life to adapt and keep safe. Pretty exciting stuff, actually. Do you know what your blood type is yet?

Ooooooh, that is so cool. Darkbloods are so cool, man. You're all crazy powerful. My friend Asami is a darkblood and she can do, like, anything with machines. I've never seen anything like it.

I haven't attempted to do anything with it. Mostly it just seems like a pain. It stains everything.

Yes. [ Maybe. ] Sometimes I bleed when I use certain abilities from my own world.

That sounds.. rough? Like what, though? Our worlds are similar, can you bend the elements too or something?

I'm not sure what bending is, but the techniques we learn as ninja are based in the elements, yes. I've no trouble with the basic ones anyone can handle, but my family's techniques are... harder on the body sometimes.

That sounds intense.

What element do you work with? I'm an Earth guy, myself. Mako is fire if he never told you.

... All of them. Though my specialties are fire, lightning, and yin based techniques.

Is it common to limit yourself to only one where you're from?

Uh, yeah. It's hereditary, so.. there's only one person in the whole world who can use all four. She's a big deal.

Hn. Interesting.

[ He means that whole heartedly too, this is probably one of the more fascinating differences in worlds he's heard in a while. ]

We have seven elemental affinities. Most can only master one or two, but with extensive training, theoretically anyone could learn to use all of them. Inherited techniques are usually more focused, though.

Sasuke. How can there be seven elements?

[ He's quiet for a while because while he definitely doesn't judge anyone for not knowing, he is the absolute worst to be teaching anyone anything. He rubs his forehead, trying to figure out how to put it into words. ]

It... depends on how you define an element. The basic four most think of are air, fire, earth, and water because they're the most visibly different, and I imagine are the ones you use at home.

In my world, we classify lightning as a separate element, as electricity contains multiple unique properties from the other four elements, and lightning jutsus are executed with different sign combinations. Then there are the spiritual elements, yin and yang, which create balance in the universe, and are usually the elements that compromise the soul.

With science, they define elements based on the unique make up of different atoms. If you go off that definition, there are 118 discovered elements.

[You know, the thing is, That first part? Okay. fine. Makes sense to him. He's say lightening was a sub class of fire, but sure. That tracks.

It's the second part that ruins any credibility Sasuke might have gotten with Bolin. 118? Sounds fake.

Okay that's not true this is probably exactly how he'd mess with someone, but he isn't, he swears, so he definitely looks surprised by the reaction because of that. ]

That would be a really boring joke. There are books on it, I'm pretty sure. I can try and find them if you don't believe me.

[And he really goes to hang up. He does. He fully intends to. It's his omen Pabu who gets in the way and bats at his hand, using his whole little body to stop it from happening.

Bolin is ruffled and tetchy about education, seeing as he never had one. This sounds like the exact kind of long game someone would use to make him look stupid and he doesn't like it. But if Pabu is interjecting (which is weird for Pabs, he almost never does) then.. maybe.. maybe he should listen. Or just be butthurt. Jury's out.

He crosses his arms suspiciously before gesturing to himself.]

I don't believe you. But I can read! [Bolin, no one accused you of being illiterate-]

[ ... He's plagued by Naruto-types. That's what this has gotta be. He already feels like he has a perpetual headache and this is just meant to remind him how often his best friend gives him one. Why was he missing him again???

Anyway, he's of the belief that everyone deserves to learn, and he's guessing from the defensive noting of his literacy that he probably hasn't done a lot of it, so he nods. ]

They'll have books in the Archives, I imagine, that should be able to explain it better than I can. Did you want to meet there sometime or should I just bring you the book?
