[Bolin turns and scrabbles back into the house, tripping over her stupid little feet in shoes four sizes too big. She'll trip running up the stairs so she goes up like an animal on her hands and toes to get the horrible gross skin she shoved in the chest at the end of her bed.
Lance wasn't much help this morning, she- HE! HE IS A HE! doubts Lance will be much help now, so with a grunt of effort and a few wretches Bolin forces himself to drag out the.. skin.. and toe it into a pillow case. Then he's scrabbling back down the stairs and out into the snow.
He falls no less than three times on his journey across Cellar Door, and will appear up at the loft apartment covered in snow, pink cheeked and panting. Pabu by her- HIS ankles all fluffed up and ready to fight.
Bo is.. well. Still Bolin. Just.. pocket sized, made all the more ridiculous by the clothes that swamp her body - hinging on the sash belt she's got double wrenched around her waist trying to hold everything up.]
[ Thank the Spirits that Bolin is here. It's weird to be alone with this new Mako, in that it's not really that weird, and that should be weird.
But he's on his feet, rushing over to Bolin to take the chest from him. Except, as soon as he takes it, he gets an eyeful of Bolin who is so small and has longer hair and a big chest and it's so jarring that Wu almost drops the chest, yelping as he tries to catch it ]
You, you, you-- [ Words are hard this morning, when his family all suddenly have breasts and he doesn't know what to do about it ]
[Moving to help stabilize but it's difficult when you're the one scaring everyone and your hands are so stupidly tiny it's impossible to grab onto anything! Though he looks like he- she- might scream too. In fact, there has been a lot of screaming already. Bo doesn't recognize the voice he's using. The body he's using. It's him but it isn't him? But he still feels like himself just everything is upside down.]
[ He isn't, but his voice is high, and he's doing his best to hold onto the chest, which is heavy. To distract himself, he hauls it back toward the middle of the loft, but doesn't have much luck. Why did you put it in something so heavy, Bolin?! ]
Not, not screaming at all, I'm fine! I'm totally fine! Everything's fine and normal!
[ Comes Mako's familiar-and-yet-not voice from the kitchen. She's busied herself making tea for Bolin, too, because this entire conversation requires tea and also congee and wouldn't you know it, the congee she remembers making a few nights ago is still in the icebox.
This is so weird. She's heating that up on the stove, too, or she was before she started rounding the island to come and help Wu. ]
[Well he tried to put it in a pillow case but who can say.]
No, no it isn't. This is not normal, I am not normal! I wanted nice skin- to maybe grow an inch or two. [Gesturing wildly to himself, tiddies be flappin.] I did not want this!! This was not the intention! Mako-
!!
[Bolin stops dead, eyes big as dinner plates. Mako.
[ Mako, holding everything in her still-pretty-strong arms, just looks at the familiar form of her sister with a little pout that is also... pretty familiar. This whole thing is so weird and uncomfortable, she hates it. ]
At least you look like you should. I'm putting this behind the couch.
[ So they don't have to think about it until they figure out what to do. ]
[ Okay, they're both panicking and generally looking gray around the edges, so. Time to step up. Mako sighs, shoves a hand back through the mess of her hair to get it off her face, and straightens up. ]
We can work on preventative stuff later. Now we need to figure out who's normal, who's not, and how we fix this. Bolin, did I... the other me, did I give you that book I got on the rituals in this city? Or do we still have that one here? Wu?
[ It takes Wu a minute to realize what she's asking, then he claps his hands together and nods, half-running over to Mako's little office to grab the book ]
Yes! We have it! Let me see-- [ He flips through it, like he was the one reading it which he definitely wasn't ] Shedding, shedding, oh, here!
One day, you simply fall asleep and when you awaken, you are an entirely different version of yourself. You will find a nearly perfect replica of your old self in a shed skin nearby. Ugh, we know. Or you might be an entirely new gender. Obviously!
These effects have been known to last for a few days up to months at a time. In some scenarios, the effects have become permanent.
[ Wu's reading voice slows then and he looks up at the pair of them with an expression of horror. He certainly doesn't want Mako's change to be permanent. He doesn't know what he would do if that were true ]
[Bolin just. Crumples to his knees with a thwump, flapping his arms out helplessly. Of course he immediately also goes to worst case scenario. Here come the water works.
[ Oh spirits she's crying okay, okay, Mako can handle this, she has done this before. Zuko leaps off Mako's shoulders and scampers immediately over to Bolin, pressing her little feet onto Bolin's knees. Mako, meanwhile, sighs and rounds the couch. ]
Bolin! Bo! We're gonna fix this! Come on, you're fine, we haven't even gotten to the part about fixing it yet. Wu, is there more? Should've read the whole thing...
[ Mako's lack of education strikes again. A weird kind of guilt is curling in her belly. The book was just so dense. ]
Yes, yeah! More, here-- [ It's hard to concentrate with Bolin crying but he does his best because maybe it'll help. He scans the rest of the page only to gag at what he does find.
He reads it slowly, looking up at the pair of them with a grimace ]
It is believed that ingesting your old skin or burning it alleviates the changes and brings you back to your original body faster.
[ Wu shuts the book, even though he catches that lotion can help stave it off so he sure is going to put a lot of lotion on as soon as he can. He steps back over to the two of them, biting his lip ]
[ Rude, Mako. Wu shoots her a glare as he sinks down next to Bolin and offers him one of Wu's magic calming hugs. Come here, buddy, he can make it at least feel less bad ]
You can look. Sorry to disappoint you, but I've always been like this.
[ Mako mutters, though the evidence is pretty clear that it is in fact her and Bolin who have changed, and Bolin not even all the way. It's uncomfortable to think that she's in some other version of home (when she isn't even yet committed to it being home) with someone who is and is not her girlfriend and is and is not her sister. Mako's discomfort is a palpable thing as she heads over to the book to read over the passage again. ]
Wu, there's tea for Bolin on the stove. I'm gonna see if there's any special way we have to do this.
[Wu’s Special Magic Calming Hugs (tm) are the best thing and greatly appreciated as he sniffles and tries to calm down, drying his tears on an oversized sleeve that drapes over his hand like an imperial court lady. ]
Hey, hey, hey, don't worry about it, buddy. I got you.
[ He keeps Bolin bundled close because Mako, no matter her gender, isn't really the hugging sort. Wu is pretty sure of that, at least.
When Bolin has stopped crying, Wu gets up to pour her some tea, pretending to ignore Mako collecting her weird skin corpse upstairs. He doesn't want to think about it, no, nope, not at all. ]
Maybe once they're burned, you'll be back to normal!

We need to invest in lotion. So much lotion. This is too weird. I'm going to slather myself in the stuff.

Please burn them. And the sheets, too.

I wonder how many people woke up different this morning.
