Personality:
Lemme tell you about this boy. THIS BOY got all of the dummy AND all of the thicc. 100% Premium Grade A Himbo coming at you from Republic City, a loose inspiration of 1920's Hong Kong. Bolin is an earnest, heartfelt, charming good boy. Despite a rough upbringing as a street orphan after the murder of his parents at the age of six, Bolin stays cheerful and easy going. He knows life isn't always perfect (far from it) but you have to make do with what you've got and try your best. His older brother Mako has worked himself to the bone trying to provide for and shield Bolin from the sharpest edges but it is what it is. He's had to steal and hustle to eat, he and his brother joined a gang to survive, but they've always had each other and have worked relentlessly to try to better themselves. He means well but has a knack for getting in trouble. When his probending team needs money to play in the championship he takes to the streets to preform a circus routine with Pabu but gets offered a huge wad of cash by a member of The Tripple Threats Triade - the gang he was once a member of as a child. It's good money to 'stand around and be some extra muscle' so he goes along. Three guesses how happy that ends. Good thing Mako and Korra come and save him after he's kidnapped by the rising antibending extremist Amon.

Having almost nothing to his name, Bolin's most important possessions are his relationships:

Mako
First and foremost is his relationship with his brother. It's Him and Mako against The World and always, always has been. He loves his brother more than he loves anyone and would do anything for him. Through thick and thin, he's got Mako's back, petty sibling squabbling aside. He trusts Mako's decisions and generally what Mako says, goes. If Bolin has news, it's always sidelined by whatever Mako is working on. As an example, he's come home talking about his exciting day becoming a film star with his friend Varrick, and Varrick's great idea to help Korra with her civil war, to find Mako busy with his police work. Mako brushes off everything his brother says because he's 'actually doing something important' gee thanks Mako, but where he could get mad he comes over and sits down to help. Because Mako knows what's going on and he will always defer to his older brother.

Varrick
Varrick is a very wealthy entrepreneur in Republic City. When Bolin comes along to a meeting with him to assist his friend Asami, Varrick takes an immediate liking to Bolin and they become pretty good friends/colleagues. A mad inventor, Bolin loves his ideas and genuine lust for life. He is also instrumental in elevating Bolin from pro bender living in the attic of a gym to film star. And for the first time in his life, Bolin has some money to live. Varrick also totally spoils him, and Bolin loves it. When it's found out that Varrick was the one who attempted to kidnap The President to force Republic City to get involved in Korra's civil war, and bought a controlling interest in Asami's company Future Industries so he could make a profit off the fighting, Bolin still forgives him almost immediately. In later years Bolin and Varrick spend three years working with Kuvira and escape her madness together.

Korra
Well, Korra is The Avatar, but it's Bolin who meets her first and brings her into his and Mako's life. He is immediately smitten and brings Korra into his probending team's box so she can watch them fight in a match. He gets the googoo eyes for Korra, Korra gets the googoo eyes for Mako, it's a mess! The drama! Korra then joins their team and they fall in thick and fast. He and Korra have a lot in common and he does get his date with her eventually but only after Mako turns her down for one. He's initially star struck when he finds out she's The Avatar but moves past it fast enough and they become good friends. After The Fire Ferrets lose their championship match and the arena is attacked by Amon, Bolin switches directions to help Korra in her fight against Amon and his Equalist, anti bending Movement. From thereon out he is a loyal, dedicated ride or die and whenever she needs help he's there. Korra has saved his life, saved him from Amon who was going to take away his powers, and he would (and does) follow her to the ends of the Earth.

Asami
Just after Bolin brings Korra in, Mako meets Asami. Mako finds himself in a love triangle but Bolin and Asami's relationship is a fun, interesting one. They're on polar opposites of the wealth spectrum but more often than not, when The Team is hanging out or havig down time, Asami and Bolin are sitting with each other playing with Pabu or Paisho, a popular boardgame. Mako and Korra often pair off to Talk Serious Business and it leaves Asami and Bolin to hang out and shoot the shit. Asami visibly supports Bolin's dreams and goals and attends his film screenings. Regardless of Mako's uselessness as a boyfriend (to Korra and Asami before they end up dating each other lolol), and and Asami have stress bonded through the relentless challenges of what it means to be a member of Team Avatar.

All together with Mako, Korra and Asami they are Team Avatar. His friends. His family. His squad.

Bolin says to his grandmother, having reunited with his father's side of the family in Ba Sing Se, "If there's one thing that Mako and I have learned from all our years on the streets: It doesn't matter where you go. If you have your family with you, you'll always be at home". And really, that's just Bolin in a nutshell.

Oh my god a man who is in touch with his feelings! Bolin is personable and easy to get along with. He knows himself and what he stands for and he is comfortable in his body and abilities. As strong as he is physically, his real strength comes from the heart (awww) but for real though. His character cornerstones are loyalty, honesty, friendship, family, love, and the Want To Do Good.

Bolin is so ride or die with his friends that he's been involved in three different wars when he absolutely 100% didn't have to be. A prime example of this is starring in a series of pro South propaganda films in support of Korra's home tribe's civil war against the Northern Water tribe.

He's jumped in front of rushing lava: chased by it into a dead end and the only earthbender in the group, he put himself between the danger and his friends not knowing if he could lavabend but would either manage it or die trying. He managed. Which is amazing because lavabending is truly exceptional. Traditionally, it is only achievable by The Avatar themselves as it uses both earthbending and firebending. Bolin's father was an earthbender and his mother was a firebender so it seems appropriate that he has this ability. There is only one other known lavabender in canon but the circumstances of his having this power are unknown.

You need to strap someone to the wing of an airplane to hurl explosives at an encampment of soldiers? Notice Something Weird going on at a movie premier and save The President from getting kidnapped? Follow you into the Spirit World to run interference fighting your evil uncle while you go try to stop an evil spirit from escaping? Bolin's your guy.

He is a good dude. You want him on your team. Not only will he go above and beyond but he really truly believes in the causes he fights for. He loves fiercely and forgives easily.

Unfortunately this also makes him easy to manipulate (especially by women). Bolin is not good at reading people and is easily drawn into causes on the surface level. He spends three years in the army 'uniting' the fractured Earth Kingdom after the fall of it's monarchy and he truly thinks he is helping these people unite as rebuild their lives. He works with reconstruction, handing out aid, food, supplies, and has no idea that the other half of the army is consuming everything in it's path. It gets him into multiple fights with those he holds closest because they know that army and it's leader Kuvira are Bad News but he really, truly believes he's doing good so how could it possibly?

To his credit, when faced with the facts, Bolin is quick to adapt and realign himself with the moral good. Once he finds out Kuvira's goals aren't what he thought he abandons the army to go back and help his friends stop her.

Bolin wants so badly to be loved by someone that he gets involved in miserable, doomed, even abusive relationships and is genuinely afraid to leave them. When he finally summons his courage and tries, he gets threatened, and backs down again. This is especially noticeable when he's younger but it is a theme that follows him visibly through his story. His doomed relationship with Korra's cousin Eska is a great example. Right from the onset. Bolin asks her out and she replies "You amuse me. I will make you mine." Bolin asks "like a boyfriend or like a slave?" to which she simply answers "yes." Eska sees Bolin as less and treats him as such. When he asks Korra why she didn't warn him that her cousin had the power to reach into his soul and crush it she answers that she thought it was obvious. When Bolin finally really does go to break up with her she twists it around and forces him into a betrothal. In the end it takes getting involved in Korra's civil war to get him free of her and even then she pursues him. He only finally gets away by literally running away on a very, very fast boat. But even then, EVEN THEN they later team up in the face of death and they briefly get back together. "Let's face the end of the world together!" he says. And they do. But, thankfully, after it's all said and done Eska decides she was swept up in the moment and doesn't really want to get back together.

Several years later Bolin dates a nice but very boring girl called Opal who is generally wholly unsupportive of him and his life or goals. He deserves the world and gets the short end of the stick in the love department which is a side arc I want to focus on in Deerington. Bolin's main arc will be assembling family and found family and facing the end of this world together, too. Finding his self-confidence along the way.

He can also be fickle, and he knows he is. He hops careers more than anyone else in canon, starting as a professional athlete, assisting Korra as a member of Team Avatar, he is Republic City's first film actor, a soldier, a police office and later serves as secretary to The President. A large portion of Bolin's story is his search to find himself, and that's something I'll continue in Deerington's endgame and into Chapter 2. With such a big focus on making a new world, Bolin will genuinely thrive helping others and trying out new professions and callings as they work together to build a life.

Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping: Bolin is an Earthbender and Lavabender who's abilities are best described HERE in his wiki. He's pretty darn powerful and pretty darn good at it but I don't think there is a need to warp them in game. That being said, if you want to then I am happy to. Bender's abilities are tied to their stamina so once they're tired and out of juice, so are their powers.
